Signing in and signing out
The Sign in icon in the title bar of the Projects screen or the Jobs screen is grayed out if you are not signed in. Tap the icon to sign in.
To sign in or to sign out, you must be connected to the internet.
You must sign in using your Trimble ID to:
- Download your Origin subscription license the first time you use your Origin subscription. Otherwise you are prompted to sign in only if you have previously signed out.
-
Synchronize Origin data with the cloud using your Trimble Connect subscription.
If you are using a controller with a perpetual license, then the controller must have a current Origin Software Maintenance Agreement and you must have a Trimble Connect Business subscription assigned to you.
To view the types of licenses assigned to you or to the controller, tap and select About. For more information, see Installing Origin.
-
To view the Sign in using Trimble ID screen, tap the gray Sign in icon in the Projects or Jobs screen.
If the controller has only Origin subscription apps installed and no licenses, the Sign in using Trimble ID screen appears the first time you start the software, and does not reappear on software start up unless you have previously signed out.
-
If you are the only person who uses Origin on the controller and you regularly use cloud projects or jobs, select the Remember me check box so that you are already signed in when you start Origin.
If you are signing in to use your Origin subscription, the subscription is locked to the controller until you sign out. In that situation, the Remember me check box has no effect.
-
Tap Sign in using Trimble ID. The Trimble Identity page opens in your browser.
If you do not have a Trimble ID, tap Create an account to create one. Alternatively, tap Sign in with Google to sign in with an existing Google account, or click Sign in with Apple to sign in with an existing Apple account.
To sign in with an existing Trimble ID:
-
Enter your username.
Your username is the email address you used when you set up your Trimble ID.
-
Tap Next.
-
Enter your password.
To see the characters you are entering into the Password field, tap .
If you have forgotten your password, tap Forgot password?
-
If you have enabled Multi-Factor Authentication for your Trimble Identity account, you are prompted to enter the verification code that you have chosen to receive via SMS or via an authentication app such as Google Authenticator.
-
The authentication successful message appears in your browser. You can close the browser tab and return to the Origin software.
-
-
The Origin software shows you are signed in.
The software displays the Projects screen or the Jobs screen, if you signed in from there. The yellow Sign in icon in the title bar indicates you are signed in.
If you are using Origin subscription apps and signed in at software startup, the software displays the About screen, showing the subscriptions you have on the controller. Tap Accept to continue to the Projects screen.
To comply with Chinese data regulations concerning the upload of Chinese geospatial data to servers outside of China, Origin allows sign in with Trimble Identity for use of subscriptions, but prevents use of the Trimble Connect cloud platform if your IP address is determined to be in China.
By default, licenses for Origin subscriptions are locked to the controller until you sign out. To use these subscription licenses on a different controller, you must sign out to release the subscription on the current controller. To change this setting, see Options for releasing your subscription below.
To sign out, do one of the following:
- Tap the Sign in icon in the title bar of the Projects screen and then tap Sign out.
- Tap and select About and then tap Sign out.
If you are sharing controllers between different members of your team, then the previous user's subscription is automatically released when a different user signs in using their own Trimble ID. In that situation, sign out from the controller is not required to release your subscription.
To change whether the Origin software releases your Origin subscription licenses when you sign out, tap and select About. From the When exiting the software field, select one of the following options:
-
Automatically release my subscriptions
-
Prompt me to release my subscriptions
-
Leave my subscriptions locked to this device
If you typically always use the same controller, select the Leave my subscriptions locked to this device option.
If you have exited the software without signing out and you need to release your subscriptions, you must restart the software and then:
-
If Remember me was previously selected in the software, then from the Projects or About screen tap Sign out.
-
If Remember me was not selected, first tap Sign in and then from the Projects or About screen tap Sign out.
To manually release your subscription licenses without exiting the software, tap Sign out from the Projects screen or the About screen.
If you are sharing controllers between different members of your team, then the previous user's subscription is automatically released when a different user signs in using their own Trimble ID. In that situation, sign out from the controller is not required to release your subscription.
Occasionally you may not be able to sign in to use your Origin subscription. This can happen if your subscription has lapsed, or if your subscription is locked to another controller.
In this case, you can create a 48-hour license to use until you can renew your subscription or unlock your subscription from the other controller. To create a 48-hour license, see Installing a temporary license.
If you cannot sign in and cannot create a temporary license then the software shows the serial number of the controller that is using the subscription, and warns that the software will run in limited mode. Tap Continue to use the software in limited mode.
In limited mode you can use the software to upload/download data from the cloud, open jobs and review them, and export data. However, you cannot open Origin apps such as Roads or Pipelines, and you cannot connect the software to an instrument or to a GNSS receiver.
