Instrument settings
To view the Instrument settings screen:
- Tap and select Instrument / Instrument settings.
- Tap and hold the instrument icon in the status bar.
Depending on the instrument that the controller is connected to, the following functions may be available:
The available instrument details depend on the connected instrument, but may include:
-
Instrument name, Instrument type, Serial number, and Firmware version.
These details are stored in the job file, and can be output to a report when exporting job data.
-
Instrument configuration, which shows information such as the radio variant and the angular accuracy of the connected instrument.
For some instruments, you can tap Name to enter the instrument name.
To enable PIN lock security on the instrument, tap PIN and then enter and confirm the PIN. The PIN can be any 4‑digit numeric value except 0000.
When the PIN function is enabled, the Unlock instrument screen appears when connecting to the instrument. Enter the PIN and then tap Accept.
When the PIN has been set, tap PUK and record the number for the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key). Use this number if you have forgotten your PIN. Ten incorrect attempts to unlock the instrument using a PIN results in the instrument being blocked. If this occurs, you are prompted for the PUK code to unblock the instrument.
If the instrument is locked and you don't know your PIN or PUK, contact your Spectra Geospatial distributor for help.
The PUK function is available for FOCUS 50 total stations only.
To change the PIN, tap Instrument / Instrument settings / PIN, enter the current PIN and then enter and confirm the new PIN.
To remove PIN lock security, tap Instrument / Instrument settings / PIN, enter the current PIN and then tap None. The software changes the PIN to 0000, which means that no PIN lock security is set.
PIN lock security can also be enabled using the Security option the face 2 display of the instrument.
When the Auto focus check box is selected, the instrument automatically focuses whenever it automatically turns to a point.
- New instruments are shipped with auto focus calibrated in the factory. When upgrading from an older version of the instrument firmware, you must first calibrate auto focus using the Adjustment / Auto focus calib. function on the instrument face 2 display.
- If heights are not known, the computed slope distance cannot be determined and the instrument will be focused based on the horizontal distance instead.
Use the Reticule illumination control to illuminate the crosshair. This is useful when the crosshair is not easily visible, for example when in a tunnel.
To enable the face 2 backlight, select Face 2 backlight.
Conventional instruments should be serviced regularly. To check when the instrument is due for the next service, tap Instrument / Instrument settings / Service. For some instruments, a service warning message appears when the instrument is due for service. When this message appears, you can still use the instrument, but you should contact your Spectra Geospatial distributor at your earliest convenience to organize servicing.
The target test is used primarily in Survey Basic when measuring a distance that is to be displayed as a dead record.
If the instrument is moved more than 30 cm from where the last measurement was observed, the HA and VA are updated but the SD reverts to "?" to avoid mistaking the next target's distance for the previously measured target's distance.
