Synchronizing data with the cloud
This topic provides information on:
-
Icons that appear next to projects or jobs to indicate there are changes to files on the controller to be uploaded or changes to files in the cloud to be downloaded.
-
Icons that appear next to file names to indicate the files on the controller are not the same as the files in the cloud.
-
How to download or upload only some files in a job.
-
How to manage file conflicts between the controller and the cloud.
Make sure you are familiar with related information that is not covered in this topic:
-
For the steps to download a project from the cloud for the first time, see To download a project.
-
To upload a local project to the cloud, see Uploading a local project to the cloud.
-
To automate synchronization to the cloud for cloud projects, see Cloud settings for data sync.
The cloud buttons next to the project or job name indicate if there are changes to files on the controller to be uploaded or changes to files in the cloud to be downloaded.

indicates you do not have access to the project or to the job. This could be because:
-
you are not assigned to the project or to the job.
-
you were assigned to the project or job but were then unassigned.
-
you are one of several users who have access to the same controller and the project or job is assigned to one of the other users.
-
you are assigned to the project but you cannot open it because you have not been assigned a Connect Business for Origin subscription. Users without a Connect Business for Origin subscription are able to work with only one project. To request a subscription, contact your project administrator.
When you change the status of a job that resides in the cloud to In progress or Fieldwork complete, changes to the job are automatically uploaded to the cloud. Job files synchronized to the cloud are shown in Sync Manager.
To manage the upload or download of individual files or to deal with file conflicts, select the project or job and then tap and select Download or Upload.
The cloud icons next to the file names in the Download or Upload screen indicate the sync status of each file. If you do not want to automatically sync all files, or if there are file conflicts to resolve, tap the name of the file and then select the most appropriate action.

indicates the file conflict has been resolved (because you have chosen to overwrite the file or keep the local file). See Managing file conflicts.
If required, you can choose to skip downloading or uploading individual files. This is especially useful when you have large files that you do not want to transfer from the field.
To select which files are synchronized to the cloud:
-
In the Jobs screen, select the job and then tap and select Download or Upload.
The Download or Upload screen appears, showing the name, type, and size of each file in the job that will be synchronized.
-
To skip downloading or uploading a file, tap the name of the file and select Skip this file. The icon next to the file changes from or to or , to indicate that the file will be skipped. You can download or upload the file later when you have returned to the office.

If appears next to the project or job it indicates there are changes in the cloud project or job that conflict with the local project or job and action is needed. Tap and select Upload or Download.
In the Upload or Download screen, the icon indicates the file that is in conflict. Tap the file and then select one of the following:
- Overwrite local file: Changes made to the local file will be lost.
- Keep local file: Cloud file contents will be overwritten on the next upload.
Once you have selected the action, the icon next to the file changes to , indicating that the file conflict has been resolved. Once the file syncing action is complete, the icon will change to .
Occasionally when downloading a project the software will not present the Overwrite local file or Keep local file options and instead shows a message warning that the file contains content from another project and the local file must be removed or renamed before the file can be downloaded. Tap Esc to return to the Projects list and then open File Explorer and navigate to the C:\ProgramData\Spectra Geospatial Data folder and remove or rename the appropriate file.
If you are unable to sync data with any projects:
-
Make sure you are signed in.
If the Sign in icon in the title bar of the Projects screen or the Jobs screen is gray, you are signed out. Tap the icon to sign in.
-
Check that you have an internet connection by opening your web browser and visiting a site that is frequently updated, for example a news site.
To set up an internet connection, see Internet connection setup.
-
If you are using a Origin subscription, make sure the subscription has not expired.
To check the subscription expiry, tap and select About.
-
If you are using Origin with a perpetual license, make sure the controller has a current Software Maintenance Agreement.
To check the current Software Maintenance Agreement status, tap and select About. The expiry date of the Software Maintenance Agreement is shown in the Software maintenance expiry field.
If you are unable to sync data with some projects but not others:
-
If you cannot view jobs that you are expecting to see or if you cannot sync data to some jobs, you may not be assigned to the job.
Contact the project administrator to make sure you are assigned to the job.
-
Make sure you are using a Trimble Connect Business subscription, rather than a Trimble Connect Personal subscription.
A Trimble Connect Business subscription allows you to create more projects and synchronize data with more projects than a Trimble Connect Personal subscription. To check your subscription type, tap and select About. If you have a Trimble Connect Personal subscription you may have exceeded the number of projects you can create. Ask your organization's License Administrator to assign a Trimble Connect Business subscription to you using the License Manager web app.
